Kitchen Remodel
The Story
This family loved their ranch’s exterior, its clean architectural lines, and its location on Forest Hills Drive. The galley kitchen, however, left them feeling inhibited and shut-off from adjacent social and living areas within the home.
After removing all of the kitchen’s old tile and thickset mortar, we added 3 footings at new load-bearing points in this slab-on-grade floor. With the footings in place, we then concealed a 24’ 2-ply laminated veneer lumber beam inside of the existing ceiling, and removed the home’s center load bearing wall—creating a large open area in what used to be a very narrow and cramped space. We installed new wood flooring to match existing, and refinished all of the wood flooring with a low VOC water-based finish. The interior was painted with a zero VOC latex paint.
We moved walls of a nearby existing bathroom, created a large shower hemmed with thick frameless glass, installed a new Solatube skylight as a daylighting strategy in this interior bathroom, and installed pocket doors between the bathroom, a utility room and an adjacent foyer.

"You chose great guys to be on your team. I never worried about who was in the house while I was gone. I always felt that your team had my best interest in mind. Always helpful, pleasant, and accommodating. You suggested and incorporated smart, energy efficient (green) materials into the project that are saving me money today."
